Barely a week to the governorship and House Assembly elections, the political atmosphere in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital is tense. The Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC , Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode campaign train hit Agege area of the state today.
Hundreds of residents of the area trooped out to listen to the campaign promises of the APC candidate. Ambode reiterated his vision for a prosperous Lagos state adding that he had what it takes to continue of the developmental path of the incumbent Governor, Babatunde Fashola.
Party leaders took turn to thanked Lagosians for voting en-masse for the its presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari last Saturday urging that the same gesture should be extended to Mr. Ambode.
They argued that Lagos cannot continue to be in opposition if the good governance currently witnessed should be sustained.
Bigwigs of the APC that graced the rally included, the state chairman of the APC, Chief Henry Ajomale, his deputy, Cardinal James Odunbamku, commisioner for transport, Hon Kayode Opeifa, his special duties counter, Dr Ahmed among others.
Meanwhile, aside the rallies and other consultative engagements with groups, the APC in Lagos had also rose to the challenge of the renewed campaign of its main challenger, Mr Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Agbaje, who before last week appeared not to be interested in running campaign commercials on television stations hit the airwaves with his “Bold Ideas’ electoral promise. The adverts are currently be aired on notable stations like Channels, Galaxy TV among others. He is also massively taking advantage of the pervasiveness of the social media. Agbaje who is seriously banking on Youths who represents large chunk of the voting public daily updates them on his activities and re-assuring them of the coming ‘Ocean Economy’ and his ‘Big Ideas’.
Ambode’s handlers too had gone back to the drawing board to shore-up their support bases and enlist new supporters. They have rolled out new batch of highway campaign banners. Also, Governor Babatunde Fashola accompanied by Ambode donated 12 buses to the student union bodies of both Lagos State University, LASU and University of Lagos. Many read political meaning to this gesture.
