The suspect, identified as Edet Effiong, 35, was arrested following an investigation into a series of attacks allegedly carried out by armed men along Akwa Ibami Road, Calabar, in June 2026.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, disclosed this in a statement to newsmen on Thursday in Calabar.

He said preliminary findings revealed that the armed men attacked and robbed different persons on separate occasions along Akwa Ibami Road, dispossessing victims of about three Qlink 150 motorcycles and other valuables at gunpoint.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that sometime in June 2026, a group of armed men allegedly attacked and robbed different persons on separate occasions along Akwa Ibami Road, Calabar, dispossessing victims of about three Qlink 150 motorcycles and other valuables at gunpoint.”

According to him, following the arrest of the suspect, detectives of the Anti-Robbery Unit of the SCID commenced intelligence-led operations, which led to the recovery of two of the stolen motorcycles.

“In connection with the case, Edet Effiong, male, aged 35, was arrested. Following his arrest, detectives of the Anti-Robbery Unit of the SCID commenced intelligence-led operations which led to the recovery of two of the stolen motorcycles.”

He further added that the case was transferred from the Sting Unit to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Calabar, on August 25, 2026, for further investigation.

The command said efforts were ongoing to recover the third motorcycle and apprehend other fleeing suspects believed to be connected with the robberies.

“The Command’s intelligence-led operations are currently in top gear to recover the remaining stolen items and apprehend other fleeing suspects believed to be connected with the alleged robberies,” the statement read.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, while commending the team, directed the investigating officers to sustain the operation, intensify intelligence gathering and ensure that all persons found culpable were brought to justice.

CP Ordue reassured members of the public of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged anyone with credible information on the remaining exhibits or fleeing suspects to contact the police.
