A veteran journalist, social critic and human rights activist, Richard Akinnola has instituted a suit at the Federal High Court, Abuja against INEC, Inspector General of Police, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Staff, Chief of Naval Staff and the National Security Adviser seeking an order of mandamus compelling INEC to conduct the 2015 general elections as scheduled on March 28 and April 11 respectively.
This suit came on the heels of uncertainty expressed by the INEC boss, Professor Attahiru Jega on whether the polls will hold as scheduled.
Akinnola is also seeking an order of mandamus to compel the IGP to provide men and materials for the security and protection of INEC staff and materials during the election.
“I am also seeking an order of injunction restraining the service chiefs and the NSA from further interfering with INEC’s conduct of the 2015 elections “whether by advice, suggestions, oppositions or howsoever described”, Akinnola said.
No date has been fixed for the suit.
