A retired Army General, Rafiu Adeshina has said that the Yoruba will survive without oil going by the boundless agricultural and mineral resources the region is endowed with.
Adeshina who spoke exclusive with our correspondent recently in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital allayed fears of the people of the region saying the ‘ The south west had always survive without oil, So, no cause for alarm’.
When he was reminded that some of the states within the region were having difficulties defraying their wage bills, the former GOC, 82 Divisions, Ibadan advised the affected states to operate within their earnings.
“We all don’t have to be like Lagos. The state earns more money and any state that does not make too much has to re-adjust. It is as simple as that and operates its activities within its earnings”, he admonished.
On the raging controversies surrounding the academic qualification of the All Progressives Congress, APC Presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, Adeshina advised the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP to chase substance and not dissipate energies on shadows.
He argued that it was better to have ‘semi-illiterate’ who can address protracted challenges confronting the nation rather than a Phd holder that cannot stem the tide of insurgency and other malaise.
