In a bid to contain the growing influenced of the new break away, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, state chapter chairmen of the PDP have called on the national leadership of the party to support them to check the spread of the new PDP in their respective states.
The state chairmen led by the chairman of the Benue state chapter of the PDP, Emmanuel Agbo said they have been having sleepless trying to ensure that what happened at the national does not replicate itself at the state levels since the party’s special national convention.
Agbo, who is the chairman of the conference of PDP state chairmen said their blood pressure level had even tripled in the process of trying to show commitment and dedication to the party since the splinter group emerged from the party at the national level.
Chairman of Rivers PDP, Felix Obuah blamed the problem in the PDP on Governor Rotimi Amaechi and his colleague governors who he said have been sabotaging the party by engaging in anti party activities and suggested to the national leadership of the party, that the best way to handle the crisis is expel Amaechi, the other six governors and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the party.
“If I were the national chairman of the PDP I would expel all the seven governors from the PDP even the Bible stipulates that if a part of the body causes the whole to sin then than part should be cut off and thrown away so the same measure should be applied to Amaechi and the six governors by cutting them away from the party,” he said.
He said it is clear that the seven are using their positions to assist the opposition parties financially hence should not be regarded as PDP members and should be dealt with as the occasion demands in order to serve as deterrent to others.
Obuah said “Amaechi is the problem with the PDP. He has been associating with the opposition as most times he is in Lagos or receiving solidarity visits from some of them. You can see that one of them has come out to say they might join the opposition parties, this confirms what I was saying that Ameachi is with the opposition.”
PDP national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur said it is good for the state chairmen to stand and defend democracy saying he believes that the PDP has internal mechanisms for resolving disputes.
He said it is normal in a democracy for the minority to have their say while the majority has its way saying from the evidence before him, the PDP chairmen standing before him are in the majority.
He expressed optimism that the current problem affecting the party is not beyond resolution.
The state party chairmen in attendance at the meeting were those of Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, Oyo, Cross Rivers, Adamawa, Yobe, Ekiti, Benue, Kogi, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Nasarawa, Ondo, Lagos, Gombe (acting) Ogun, Osun, Plateau and that of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
