The ongoing military operation in Borno State, the epicentre of the Boko Haram
insurgency appeared not capable of flushing out terorists from the troubled state. Boko
Haram sect has killed 19 security personnel in its recent attacks in Borno State.
This was contrary to the earlier claim by the security agencies that they were winning the
war against terrorists.
President Goodluck Jonathan through his media aide, Rueben Abati earlier in the week
said the government had “flushed out terrorists” from the troubled north eastern states.
The slain officers were twelve soldiers and seven policemen.
The commander of the military Joint Task Force (JTF), Major General Jah Ewansiah,
disclosed this Friday evening when Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima paid a
condolence visit to the JTF headquarters over the incident.
He said despite the incident, the JTF would not mind continuing to sacrifice their lives to
restore peace in the state.
Ewansiah lamented: “We have lost twelve soldiers in Malumfatori and seven policemen
in Bama attacks. But despite that, the JTF is resolute and committed to ensuring that
peace is completely restored in Borno State, even if it means losing their lives”.
The governor condemned the incident and later announced a donation of N1 million to
the families of each of the slain security operatives.
