The National Union of Local Government Employees has cancelled its planned 3-day warning strike over the refusal by the Senate to grant autonomy to local councils. The National President of the Union, Mr. Ibrahim Khaleel announced this today.
The National Executive Council, NEC, of the National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE had last week at a meeting held in Abuja gave a directive to members to embark on the warning strike to register their displeasure over the refusal of autonomy for councils.
They seek both financial and political autonomy for local government in the country which they argued would deepen development at grass-root level.
Meanwhile, the request by the local government employees has been generating mix reactions from different quarters. While some are of the opinion that the request should be considered, others said it should be discarded.
