
The much anticipated voting exercise in Osun State has started. Our correspondent who monitored the election, reported that there was massive turn out of voters.
The incumbent Governor and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola voted around 1:07 pm while the immediate past national chairman of the APC , Chief Bisi Akande voted around 1:20 pm.
Aregbesola while addressing Journalists who accosted after he cast his vote expressed confidence that he would emerge victorious. He also commended the people for coming out enmasse regardless of the alleged ‘militarization’ of the process by the PDP led Federal Government.
The governor also condemned an alleged harrassment and arrest of APC leaders and members yesterday by the security operatives. He urged the security forces to conduct themselves in a most civilized manner bearing in mind that they have been maintained by the tax payers money.
In the same manner, Chief Bisi Akande gave commended the peaceful conduct of the election. He boasted that his party, APC will emerge winner. The former governor while buttressing his prediction recalled that the people of the state had always lined up behind the progressive political parties like defunct Action Group in the first republic, Unity Party of Nigeria, Alliance for Democracy and now APC.
Meanwhile, the former Governor of the State, Alhaji Isiaka Adeleke alleged that he narrowly escaped assassins’ bullet on Friday in his home town Ede.
According to him, the gunmen, who allegedly came in convoy of four vehicles reportedly waylaid the APC chieftain who was going to his mother’s house around 1pm in the afternoon.
Adeleke, who disclosed this to newsmen shortly after his accreditation at Sagba Abogunde ward in Ede town, said one of those that attacked him is a Peoples Democratic Party youth leader who identified him (Adeleke) in his car and shouted that he should open the door.
