
Veteran broadcast administrator, Dr. Tom Adaba has said that the much touted digital broadcast migration is useless without development of quality content urging independent content producers to get back to work and produce content of international standards.
Adaba , the pioneer Director- General of the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC stated this at a stakeholders’ summit of digital broadcast held last Thursday at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.
He also called for deepened publicity and education on the digital migration, saying, ‘It is when stakeholders are well informed about the digital migration before they can disseminate or educate others. Digitalization is nothing without content”.
Speaking earlier, House of Representatives Chairman committee on communication represented by his deputy, Hon. Dauda Kako- Are reiterated the commitment of the National Assembly to the digital broadcast migration. He urged stakeholders to tidy the loose ends on time before the electioneering for the 2015 elections.
Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) , National President Comrade Yemisi Bamgbose who was represented by his deputy called on policy makers to accompany their words with action by allocating the required for the project. We are still scratching digitalization , the government has not been very helpful”, he said . He disclosed to the amazement of those in attendance that many state governments are still placing orders for analogue equipment.
RATTAWU boss also argued that the digitalization should be backed by enabling laws.
