Hon Saliu Adeniyi, the executive chairman of Eredo Local Council Development Area, LCDA in Epe division area of Lagos has cleared the air on the purported commissioning of an ‘ultra modern toilet’ which trended on the social media recently.
Adeniyi who spoke during an interaction with the media last Wednesday at the council secretariat explained that the error of ultra-modern inscription on the ceramic plaque was an unintended error caused by the overzealous contractor who built the toilets.
The council boss conducted journalists round the secretariat on the spot assessment of the eight male and female toilets and other infrastructural renewal projects within the secretariat and around the community.
He said, “Nobody will celebrate or commission a toilet in the sence that the social media has put it. The pictures are not meant for the social media anyway. It was a private ceremony, an handover of a facility by the local government to the union.
“That is a normal protocol and process in the civil service. If you build a facility, you need to hand it over to someone who will take responsibility. I am a politician, and the most critical stakeholder in the council is the union. If the Union chairman decides feels I should come and help them handover a project, I will oblige. Even market women because that is where I get votes.
“That project was executed by a 63-year old man who is doing that for the first time in his life. He is a local and because he was over-excited and wrote what he thought was best for his project. I didn’t even see it until it got to the social media. The man has been guided and apologized.
“We are happy that the man worked to specification and most importantly we have given a career and developed. He now has a source of livelihood and confident that he can do projects”.
