The Muhammadu Buhari -led presidency is not leaving anything to chance in the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti State.
A competent source in the Villa told COMPLETE NEWS that ‘Ekiti project’ is top on the President’s agenda as the Abuja forces want to use the election as a launching pad to sweep votes in the six south western states.
It was gathered that south west is critical to the re-election bid of the president as the entreaties extended to the south/south and south/East regions are not delivering expected political capital for the APC led government. Hence, a need to ‘capture’ southwest.
Buhari won all the states in the south west in 2015 presidential election except Ekiti which Governor Ayodele Fayose delivered to the then President and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP presidential candidate, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.
The source told COMPLETE NEWS that, “ Fayose is a goner. I can confirm this to you with all sense of responsibility. The Buhari government sees Ekiti as a critical state that should not be left in the hands of opposition especially under the daring political leader like Fayose.
“Again, Ekiti is the first election to herald the 2019 general elections; therefore, the Buhari government wants to make a bold and clear statement of its capacity to win the general polls next year. Therefore, they are not leaving anything to chance.
“ All the logistics and other assets that will be required will be deployed any moment from now. Fayose is in definitely in for the battle of his life. My brother, it was not for fun that ruling party detailed 77-well experienced chieftains to see to the Ekiti project including governors.
The APC 77-man committee for Ekiti governorship election comprises 14 governors and 63 others.
It will be recalled that Governor Fayose had earlier raised an alarm over an alleged plot to rig the election in the favour of the former governor and candidate of the APC, Dr Kayode Fayemi. Fayose described the intimidating 77-man committee of the APC as a biblical philistine army that will be defeated.
