
Federal Government has given scholarships to 36 youths from Delta State to pursue
various courses at the University of Alabama, USA.
The Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta Affairs, Mr
Kingsley Kuku, disclosed this in today on Friday at the Offshore Orientation and
Departure Programme, organised for the beneficiaries.
According to Kuku who was represented by the Head of Reintegration Department,
Larry Pepple, the beneficiaries are to study Political Science, Criminology, Pharmacy,
Computer Science, Physical Therapy, Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration
and Communications Technology.
Other courses are Economics, Sociology, Business Management, Elementary Education/
Teaching, Biology/Biological Science, Medicine, Accounting, Banking/Financial Support
Services, Forensic Chemistry and Engineering.
He explained that the beneficiaries were offered scholarships because their communities
were affected by militancy and oil exploration.
He added that the gesture was also in furtherance of the Jonathan’s administration’s
efforts towards building the capacity of the youth in the Niger Delta region.
He enjoined the beneficiaries to be dedicated to their studies in order to justify the
government’s investment in them.
“Do exploits so that we will celebrate you. The only way to achieve that is through hard
work”, he said.
