Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio, one of the key political strategies of President Goodluck Jonathan, who is also the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Governors’ Forum has revealed more of what transpired at the Sunday meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and Kawu’s led faction of the PDP, saying that both factions have agreed that the President can seek re-election in 2015 if he wishes.
Akpabio , who was at the meeting, while addressing State House correspondents in Abuja claimed that both Bareje and Tukur’s factions had resolved not to be opposed to Jonathan’s ambition for second term.
The governor said though all the controversial issues were raised, the question of whether or not Jonathan should seek a re-election is a constitutional matter which should be left for the president to decide.
He said: “The right of an individual to contest election in Nigeria, including the President is a constitutional one which the individual should be allowed to decide whether or not to exercise such right. Like me, I am going to contest for senatorial election after my tenure in 2015.
“Of course, on the issue of 2015, both sides agreed that it wasn’t an issue for discussion because every single person has a right to have an ambition. Some of the governors may have ambition like I’ve an ambition to go to the Senate.
And you can’t discuss anything about another person’s ambition. You’re the only person that can discuss your own ambition. Ambition is personal. So, both parties agreed to that”
