The Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu has denied reports that he had anointed candidate to succeed him.
The governor reassured that he was not supporting any aspirant to clinch the Peoples Democratic Party ticket for the state governorship election in 2015.
Aliyu also denied backing any of the party’s aspirants for the Senatorial by-election in Niger East, adding that he had not made-up his mind to contest the zone’s ticket in 2015.
He made the declaration today in Minna at the unveiling of new Certificate of Occupancy for the state.
The Governor said he had to make the clarifications as some politicians had been dropping his names, claiming that Aliyu had endorsed them as the candidate for the two elections.
“I have not told anybody to run for election in 2015. Anybody that wants to run can run. At the end of the day, the party will support anyone that wins.
“My support for any aspirant now will create crisis in the party. We should leave everything to Allah,” he said.
Aliyu denied concluding arrangement with anyone to contest the Niger East by-election and “hold forth” for him until 2015 when he (the governor) would be eligible to contest.
